I have XP, when I search on google and click on a provided link I am redirected to another web site, usually eBay or some other non related page.
Can anyone tell me what is happening.

You have a hijacker, which is a type of adware / spyware.
Get some anti-spyware programs, such as Yahoo Toolbar with Anti-Spy, Spybot or the like.
